Best Procedures to Help Ensure Your Skin Looks Rejuvenated at Any Age

By Teresa Zawada

At Windsor Dermatology, we offer a variety of in-office cosmetic procedures that help patients obtain healthy, youthful looking skin at any age.

While there are many aesthetic skincare options available, we always inform and educate our patients about what options are the best for them. Once we understand our patients’ objectives, we develop a personal skincare treatment plan. In addition to our in-office services, we also can suggest at-home options that work to complement and maintain procedures done in our office.

So what are the benefits of our personalized treatments? Here is a sample:

Microdermabrasion is one of the most popular and effective anti-aging skincare treatments that can help your skin appear younger and firmer looking. This non-invasive, safe and pain-free procedure is ideal for patients looking to treat or eliminate fine lines and wrinkles, age spots, stretch marks and discoloration.
In addition, peels can help liven up the skins appearance, and are perfect for those with visible signs of aging, sun damage or scaring. We would recommend several types of peels to improve your skins tone and texture, while helping with acne breakouts, fine lines and wrinkles, oily complexions and facial redness and blotchiness.

A Salicylic Peel is a procedure that helps to refine, resurface and revise the skin. This peel is ideal for those suffering from acne, oily skin, rosacea or frequent whiteheads or blackheads.

A Glycolic Peel helps freshen and rejuvenate the skin by removing dead and damaged skin cells from the top layer of the skin.

A Phyto-Pumpkin Enzyme Peel is ideal for patients with sensitive or intolerant skin or rosacea.

A Deep-Cleansing Enzyme Peel is perfect for patients that are unable to tolerate stronger chemical peels due to sensitivity, easily irritated or allergy-prone skin. This peel is made from bromelain extract, which is derived from the pineapple plant.

As you can see, we have a wide variety of aesthetic treatment options to help rejuvenate your skin at any age. Make an appointment with me by August 29, 2014 to receive 10% off microdermabrasion and any of our peels.

Call Windsor Dermatology at 609-443-4500 or visit Windsor Dermatology to make an appointment or to learn more about our aesthetic procedures.

How to Look Your Best On Your Wedding Day

By Teresa Zawada
Licensed Aesthetician
Wedding memories last a lifetime, and so do the photos! From teeth whitening to personal training, rarely is an expense spared to help a bride look her dazzling best on her wedding day. Although planning is extremely important, one thing a bride cannot plan on is a skin emergency! So what’s a girl to do when it’s two days before the wedding and an uninvited guest appears front and center on an otherwise flawless face? Follow these next tips and the word “airbrushed” will never be brought up when choosing your photos.
  1. Have an emergency backup plan. You know your wedding date months in advance, so make a dermatologist appointment two days before. It’s easier to call and cancel (with prior notice) than to call and try get squeezed in at an inopportune time. This way, should you have a blemish make an appearance, your derm can inject it with a cortisone shot and within hours the inflammation should go down; 24 hours later, nearly gone.
  2. De-stress. Yes, you are going to be the go-to if ANYBODY has a question, but find your happy place. Stress can not only cause a surge of hormones that will trigger excessive sebum, thus creating pustules, but it can also hinder the body’s natural healing process.
  3. Having facial treatments such as microdermabrasions and chemical peels will leave you glowing, but NEVER have one within a week of your big day. If an unexpected reaction were to occur, there may not be sufficient time to heal the skin and you may look red or blotchy. This is also true for extractions on the skin (so don’t pick) and waxing.
  4. Keep an arsenal on hand. Hopefully, if you are prone to breakouts, and even if you aren’t, a healthy skin regimen instated months in advance should ensure a clear complexion. Having a sulfur based spot treatment (to dry and shed dead skin off a blemish without over drying) or tea tree oil (a natural alternative for acne) are both gentle enough to improve the look of a blemish without scabbing. But please, test an inconspicuous area for allergies before you apply to the face and treat with the mind set “less is more.”
  5. IF all else fails, make up will be your saving grace. Local makeup artist Erin Root recommends NOT piling on concealer. She states “try and use as little concealer as possible that is as close to your skins natural color. Apply a thin layer to the blemish and then set with loose powder. If more coverage is needed, try and add another thin layer to the blemish and again set with loose powder. Then, go ahead and apply your foundation as needed."

What is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is one of the most popular and effective anti-aging skincare treatments available today. Often called an “instant facelift,” microdermabrasion reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improves skin tone, clarity and texture, unclogs pores and decreases pore size and diminishes skin discoloration, age spots and scarring.

At Windsor Dermatology, many of our patients have discovered that microdermabrasion is a non-invasive, safe and pain-free alternative to traditional plastic surgery, helping their skin to achieve a more youthful, smoother and brighter appearance.

How Does Microdermabrasion Work?

Microdermabrasion is usually performed on the face, chest, neck, arms and/or hands. Using a crystal-free, medical-grade diamond tip, our aesthetician uses a hand-held device to guide the tip across your skin to loosen and exfoliate dead skin from the uppermost layer.  A gentle vacuum-like suction then removes the dead and damaged cells from your skin.  Diamond tips are available in different sizes and the aesthetician can apply varying degrees of abrasion, depending on skin type, the condition that is being addressed and the level of resurfacing required.

Diamond-tip microdermabrasion is safe and effective for all skin types, including sensitive skin.

How Often Do I Need Microdermabrasion Treatments?

Microdermabrasion treatments build upon each other, and patients may notice some improvement after only one treatment. However, the aesthetician will be able to advise you on the number of recommended treatments after an initial consultation and assessment.

Usually three to six sessions are required to achieve optimal results. These will be scheduled at intervals ranging from several days to two weeks, depending upon the initial assessment and expected treatment outcomes.  Many of our patients choose to maintain their results with additional treatments every four to six weeks following their initial treatments. Each treatment lasts approximately 30-60 minutes.

What Can I Expect After Each Treatment?

Many patients schedule their microdermabrasion treatments on their lunch breaks because there is minimal discomfort and no disruption in daily activities associated with this procedure. Your skin may appear to be mildly sunburned following treatment, and you will be more sensitive to the effects of sunlight exposure. Therefore, you should avoid sun exposure for the first 24 hours following each treatment and apply a sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 15 as your skin continues to heal. Makeup can be applied three-four hours following each facial treatment.

What Are the Overall Benefits of Microdermabrasion?

Your skin will appear younger-looking and firmer. Age spots and acne scars will fade or even disappear. You’ll notice improved skin texture and a smoother appearance. And you’ll receive plenty of compliments about your fresher and more youthful appearance!
